The Church boys’ soccer team, “The Coptic Knights,” was first established in the year 2000. Many players have gone through this team and now the youngsters of the church are proving to be the backbone of the team.
The team has gone through a lot with different coaches and different players which have allowed the team to grow into a mature team. The Knights have partaken from the very beginning in the African nations Cup which at first consisted of 3 teams ( Sudan, Ethipia and Egypt), and now involves more than 8 teams from Africa. However the Knights unfortunately were not able to partake in it this year.
On September the 29th, a group of soccer players from Abu Sefein and St Michaels Coptic Orthodox church came to play the Coptic Knights as part of the ICCA (Interstate Coptic Churches Cup.)
The teams played at the Marden Sports Complex. The Knights played every match with great professionalism. They won every game to the final with conviction and won the final against St Michaels 3-1. This competition saw Anthony Sharkawi get top goal scorer and Majed Ibrahim get MVP of the tournament. The Knights are undefeated since.
All together it was a great day and everyone enjoyed themselves tremendously.
In late December, Adelaide plans to send their soccer players to Sydney to take part in another Soccer Competition. The Knights plan to prepare for that competition with a strict training regime to get all the players up to the level needed.
The Coptic Knights have a great spirit within the team and all the players are continually improving. There is great pride wearing the Knights shirt, as the Knights are thought by many to play the most attractive soccer within the Diocese. The philosophy of the Knights is simple, to thank God at all times that they are able to play, and secondly that football is like music it must flow beautifully.
