The Departure of His Holiness Pope Shenouda III

H. H. Pope Shenouda III, the 117th Pope of Alexandria and the Patriarch of All Africa on the Holy Apostolic Seat of Saint Mark the Evangelist of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, has passed away on March 17, 2012(Baramhat 8, 1728). We ask the Lord to comfort His pure soul. Condolences to the Church and to everyone who loved Him.  We are sure that He is interceding to God on our behalf.

THE HISTORY OF COPTS

The word Copt basically means Egyptian and it is derived from the Greek word Aigyptos by removing the first and last 2 characters in the Greek word Ai and os we have the word gypt which has thus become the words Egypt and Copt. Later on in history, the term Copt was used to refer to the Christians of Egypt who were referred to by Leeder as the modern sons of Pharaohs.
